The Crazies—and just who might that be??

                                                   the crazies trailer

Lately filmakers have been springing the unexpected on moi.  In other words, they’ve been pitching out some films that actually defy their overt marketing packages. The Crazies is another addition to my “took me by surprise” list that now includes Avatar –a visual arts  treatise on anti-Imperialism, uncontrolled greed & power, and commentary on the everything is expendable, all for profit corporate mindset in such abundance around our global community. Oh real life examples of this can be found currently underway in Ecudar and Peru and Nigeria and . . . ..

I have learned to trust my son’s film viewing requests ever since he cajoled me into seeing 28 days later.  Oh yeah, there was a load of zombies rampaging everywhere–but then, about mid way the film turned into something deadly serious intellectually and ethically. Oh my what issues and questions it raised! Offspring also hauled me to that great monster movie, The Host (do not view this dubbed as it ruins the soundtrack’s effects).

If you’re just in the market for a tense horror flick, then by all means see The Crazies on that level. It delivers the tension, visual surprises, and touches of offbeat dark humor. David and Judy offer a loving relationship that works to get you engaged in their fight for survival. The film might also get you wondering about all things regarding military protocol in emergency scenarios–and a   few other Big Brother is Watching Us issues.  Just who are the real crazies in this film’s world and ours? That’s a very serious question these days.

I didn’t even consider watching that movie ( The Crazies) until your review. Now I will see it, when it comes out on video. So I can have all the lights on;-)
Have you ever seen, 30 days of night?

OOO I have NOT seen 30 days of night–do tell more, Geradine.
I was reluctant to see The Crazies–then I considered my son’s film choice track record and decided to go along for the ride. It’s ‘horror’ element runs perhaps on a level beyond just keeping the lights on while watching–but that depends on how your mind and imaginattion works. It might dissuade from using any more automated car washes though…..oh yeah.

That site was scary. Especially when a bloody “HELP US” just suddenly appeared on that sign. If I’m gonna watch it, I will be hiding under an avalanche of blanket, pillows and bolsters.

Horror movies is just unhealthy for me. Just like school.

Okay, horror films aren’t for everyone. No horror movies for AS! School is probably less scary. Hope so, anyway.

I haven’t seen this yet but the trailer looks surprisingly good. We loved “The Host”, even my wife — I did one of my capsule reviews of it a couple of years ago. It’s here if you want to read it.
