Today I posted another survey profile of the Cheyenne River Indian Reservation 1922 survey, Alex Makes It Long. Then I considered the news contained in a related blog link to a video of Keith Olbermann commenting on current conditions on the Cheyenne River Reservation. Hence the motivation for this post of some information items.

Wow, I hadn’t even heard about this event at the reservation … good on Keith for publicizing it.

Hey Fedora a la Dennis. At the time there were snippets here and there online and that was about ALL the coverage until KO’s sound bite. Take note that The Water Issue is a long standing problem on that has never been appropriately addressed on the Cheyenne River Reservation. I have correpondence from a shool teacher, Mr. Carson, pleading for an OUTHOUSE in early 1900 so that the children don’t have to just randomnly ‘use’ the bushes and ditches.
From the sound of things, Mr. Carson and his pupils might have gone after even a litterbox scenario for health and cleanliness reasons.
