Sticking it to Edward S. Curtis–with a grin.

After a depth charge of “Mao’s Guilt”  by the Brothers Gao and a few other random dark thoughts still frying in my brainpan, I figured a  little something different is in order. Something light but with some attitude.  So here’s a small reality check for Edward S. Curtis’ “Vanishing Race.”  Some fun from Smoke Signals that–well–hey you don’t have to be Victor & Thomas to seriously ask–“Hey, what’s with John Wayne’s teeth?” Ever watch his mouth work like it’s geared to his hip action  from movie to movie?

Then, in a cheeky tribute to Rhonda of Native Spirit Radio on KKFI, I’ve tuned into what seem to be the best audio versions on YouTube of  “NDN Kars” by Keith Secola and the Wild Band of Indians.  My search was for audio good enough to understand the lyrics without a text so if you desire some other images you can take your pick from YouTube’s selections.

Still can’t resist the “point of it all”: Hey, Edward S. Curtis, these people look vanished? Sure sounds like “NOT!”

Everyone have a laugh and dance a little!

Hhe I’m loving John Wayne’s teeth! (did we ever establish what they were made of exactly?) 😀

I never noticed that about John Wayne’s teeth….that was one fine bit of satire!

Glad you enjoyed that slice of humor, slpmartin. We notice all sorts of things about actors like John Wayne–but every now and then someone discovers something ‘new’. LOL.

Ah yes, even I have a “light” side, Leslie. LOL. I bet you ‘danced’ too–you’re feet were moving, I know it!

Smoke Signals is a movie that I both loved and hated with a passion. It may be the only movie that does that for me.

Thomas is the man though and John Wayne’s teeth his a great song. …but I do think it’s a little bizarre what we both made posts that emphasized teeth today.

    • September 21, 2010 at 11:09 pm

Copy that observation about the ‘teeth’ posts–yours has a certain flavor to it though between the women and the chips and the teeth.
Your engagement with Smoke Signals is interesting–but not surprising considering everything that film/script attempts to do–and smuch of what it succeeds at accomplishing. I agree that Thomas is the MAN—he’s a wonderful storyteller, an obsessive communicator, and such a good spirit.
Have you seen “The Business of Fancy Dancing” ?

Finally caught up to everyone and I’m in agreement about the fun you present. I wouldn’t mind hanging out with the two guys on the bus in the first video…they seem very likeable!

Hola Al. If you care to, you can hang out with Victor and Thomas throughout the entire length of “Smoke Signals”–just be forewarned that Thomas is one heck of storyteller/talker!
