Women who want to change a lot more than their underwear.

Is it me or does anyone else find it intellectually and ethically offensive that a man responsible for a part of the Egyptian government that carries out spying, torture, imprisonment and other such “nice” things essential to destroying any show of political dissent or opposition is offered as a ”concession” to the demand for regime change for the dictator who gave him the job as head spooker? When Egyptian people are demanding CHANGE from the old corrupt status quo, who are they offered but Omar Suleiman. What a terribly sick joke this must be to those people in Tahrir, Alexandria and Suez who have sent certain economic wheels into quiet desperation. Actually it is a HUGE insult from my perspective. People wanting a change in a system they don’t want are offered the same system with an equally offensive face.  Huh. I gather the powers that be figure the rest of us minions are flat-out morons because we are not part of “their” network.  The Ivy college educated elites figure we’re so stupid that we don’t see what’s going on.  Oh yes, let’s not kid ourselves by thinking that the governing bodies around the globe actually “care” about the well-being of people. The truth is that  those running the political dog and pony shows care only about their own acquisition of power, control, influence and wealth. The rest of us serfs be damned–we’re just cannon fodder, cheap labor and media spin pawns for their entertainment of playing the games of RISK and Monopoly. Pop quiz: Who trained Omar Suleiman to be all that any oppressive government needs him to be? One guess. Yes. just ONE. Hint: Superpower. Oh yeah, made in the U.S.A.

Strangely enough I began this blog post with Egyptian women on my mind. When I didn’t see their faces in the American broadcasts I went searching for them elsewhere. Found them. Yes, they are there in Tahrir Square, Alexandria, Suez and elsewhere protesting in support of their people.  I wonder what goes on behind Hilary Clinton’s mask when she sees women like these.  Perhaps it’s a good time to buy stock in tums?

True change cannot resemble in anyway the old regime. It must be different.

The USA must be weak, really to have to control with such a heavy hand, like a bully.

      Hi Meg.
The USA has “drones”. What more does it need to rule the world?

Oh? I thought that subversion was the endgame of all great school teachers?

I’m like Human Rights Watch…wondering what will happen when the cameras go off and onto the next world crisis.

Um, do we really need to “wonder”, Charles? There are reasons the authorities consider members of the press enemy comabatants.

This is what they all do, not only in Egypt, you ask for a change and when they give you change you realize they’ve done nothing but a big fat joke to fool you around.

Regarding the women … well there is a saying that in Egypt even being a dog is much better than being a woman. It’s against all my beliefs the way they have women treated. I’ve been 3 times to Egypt and the fact that in hotels even the cleaning is done by men, on the streets you could hardly see a woman walking and if you see one she is usually covered top to bottom in dark colors, because someone might set eyes on her … well that for me is a pretty right-less life and they certainly have reasons to be on that Tahrir square.

However, I do realize all this is mostly because of the religion and years of certain different culture set into their minds, but still … everyone should have the right to be free and have a better life!

I like your posts very much!

Thank you, scent of my heart. I agree–everyone should–and could–have the right to freedom and a better life.

YES these things have been on my mind how all governments in the so called democratic west keep these dictators in the world in power for the simple reason it suits them. I know as a western person i only can live the way i live because millions and millions do not live like me and it suits the western societies to keep it that way.

We have a very narrow minded view of Moslem women it is not the religion but it is how man have interpreted that religion to suit them the same is with christian religion and other religions same in many cultures women are seen as dirty or bad. It is up to them women themselves to change their live in the way they want and not the way western people want, to be frank we did not do a good job either.

Like you i have been looking for them woman and seen them no matter in which way they dress they are there but it suits our media to ignore this it suits Hillary to ignore this fact. It was once their demands that woman get equal rights in moslim countries where did this go to??????? Perhaps because Hillary forgot she is a woman and act like a man to stay in her job????

Thank you for the videos it is so good to see and i hope with every inch of my body that the people of Egypt succeed and that Hillary Merel and them lot stick their head in shame.

You know, mAgdA, I seriously wonder about H.Clinton. Is it that she’s forgotten how to be a woman in order to play the politicis game with the big boys–OR–is she just a woman who whole heartedly embraces the mentality of the big boys? I guess it doesn’t matter because the end result is the same. BUT, still I am curious about how her mind operates. She’s got plenty of company like Rice,Thatcher, Pelosi and others as far as women conducting political busisness just like the good old boys. So I’m not so sure it’s a gender issue but more a “thinking” and “cultural values” issue that needs addressing when it comes to how the world IS. IF it’s a “mental” issue then thinking can be changed –and so can the world. It’s a matter of choice. At least I hope it is or we’re definitely doomed as a species.

It is a choice and there are women who take a different stand here is a link to one of my favourite a true example for me Femke Halsema
a Dutch politician. I admire her for how she dealt with a right wing politician who is now in the Dutch government and is extreme anti Muslim. He has put in to make a law to tax the headscarf Muslim women wear and even gave it a nasty name. She stood up and said this is anti women, we should not tell women what to wear nor what not to wear certainly not by law. He had noting back from that a perfect moment. By the way no man stood up and spook against this idiot idea.
So there are other ways and there are woman who practice them. While in the house of representatives she was pregnant and had twins, just like other woman do in other jobs.

I agree–we each have the right to be ourselves–the right to self determination even if it is not the “same” as what others desire for themselves.
