small pleasures

small pleasure

discovered

in childhood

howling

sets domestic breeds on edge

pulls their triggers

rips their ears

sets them yapping fiercely

urges making contact

here and there

longest memoried return in kind

off the bus

down the street

walking and howling

everyone knows I’m home

collies, shepherds, spaniels exciting

humans at a loss

while we are ourselves

did ginsburg ever dare

howl not as a man

primal

ancient

alive

as we should

girl child takes her time

down the foggy dark street

revving up the dogs

laughing after hauling out an impressive long one

alarmed mommies and daddies thinking of red riding hood

bad ass gobbling up their spawn

yeah,

fear fear

howl

I am here

home mother glares and growls distrust

safe distance keeps

not my child

oh no, not mine howling

I smile, let loose low inside

Witty and fun. Had to howl, here, just for the sheer joy of it. Love your poetry!!

“humans at a loss” is my favorite line.

Ha…I did howl as a child and enjoyed it when the neighborhood dogs would join in…a bit of a game I suspect. 😉

Haha – love it, brilliant – I howl at my dogs on a full moon – it does their heads in, but they come running straight away to me – the pack leader 😉 My little girl joins me sometimes – a mother, daughter bonding thing – haha.

Ah, yes, howling. Custom-made for the sheer joy of the sound. Careful where I do it these days, but the habit persists. Always knew there was a bit of wolf in me.

Wonderful and full of a sense of freedom, freedom to be at one with nature and howl to your hearts content…(and scare the neighbours too !! ) Loved it Eva..xx

I am so thrilled–and awed–to discover ALL of you fellow HOWLERS!!!! Oh yeah! Next full moon I will indulge and expect ALL of you to do the same–including all the “silent” readers who haven’t shared their throating inclinations. LOL.
