“crows visits”

after hungry hawk’s denial

Kaw! Kaw! Kaw!

hawk gone, gone, gone

crow visits

strutting surveying

street walking

straight on white line

chic glistening black

sneering at autos

wings smug

Kaw! Kaw! Kaw!

water, water, water

drinks deep

eyes glinting bows

crisp feathers catch wind

Kaw! Kaw! Kaw!

still hungry hawk watches crows flight

When I read it I could hear the crows voice in “hawk gone, gone, gone,” and again in “water, water, water.” Weirdly, we have crows here, but I rarely see or hear them like I did in SoCal. Kinda miss them. 😦

Am gratified that you could “hear” crows in the poem. Very kind of you.
I wonder why your local crows are “invisible.” They’re quite wonderful creatures.

Great poem. The crow is one of my totem animals and the symbol of magic and creativity. I drew them to grace my web site – (http://www.jeannebalsam.com/) Not to mention they’re exceedingly smart. Thanks for this! Jeanne

Hello Jeanne. Your web site is wonderful and your icon image is noted. 🙂 Yes, crows are very intelligent. I enjoy them very much. I’m a little worried about the ones who frequent my area because their numbers seem to be declining. The group was nearly a “murder” last year but now I’m lucky to spot 5 of them in their usual hangouts.
      Wonderful “totem” to have.
