“transient” plus a touch of real Joan Osborne~ on the side for good measure

catching number ten humboldt

eleven years riding

day begins at 6:17 am northbound

then live again at 5:15 pm southbound

weekend hells

mondays through fridays swell

smiles on tuesdays

wednesdays wedging between masses

seats sharing thursdays

fretful friday exits

monday morning winks again

silent moves all around

until there’s one less in the bus crush

one tick tocker detoured

without a word

what did you expect

 just transit affair

Now for Joan Osborne as the voice was meant to be….

Reminded me of those days when I rode the bus to work each day in New England.

Were there people you saw regularly? Any of whom you conversed with or missed when they were not on the bus when expected to be?

Eva, i love the pace of this. and i identify with the commuter. i can always tell if i’m early or late by looking around at my fellow commuters. sometimes i wonder if they’re using me as a gauge – in which case, we’re both late! (smile)

    • January 5, 2013 at 8:49 pm

Hello Yi-Ching. Have you camera captured your fellow commuters yet? I would think of that as a like a daily diary in images. The last time I had the opportunity to ride a bus on a daily basis it turned into a morning adventure every day. Yeah, more than gauging going on when people birng their ideas of breakfast food on the bus! LOL.

I haven’t used public transport since I was a teenager, apart from the occasional special event. Still, I can imagine the blogosphere is like a bus or a train inasmuch as there are people we get to know over time who suddenly disappear, and one wonders where they went to.

Yes, for some it takes more than time than others to connect with other riders. Some of us just can’t help ourselves with our yapping. Agreed, somewhat like blogland–but from the distance of cyberspace. On a bus we’re pretty much face to face–concretely.

That Joan Osborne song is one good West Coast Swing. 🙂 I have never heard any of her other songs besides “One of Us”.

    • January 6, 2013 at 8:14 pm

O Dennis–Joan “the voice” Osborne has much more than “One of Us.” Check out the rest of Relish and/or her Early Recordings for some heart and soul. Woof! Woof!
