“The Lost Vikings” A Cautionary Tale for Our Times: Adapt or Die

While tooling around on the tubes of you in search of other items of interest I came across this PBS segment from Secrets of the Dead. Finding it quite appropriate regarding a number of subjects and issues for our times–climate change, Indigenous life-ways, values, survival, food, water, religious influences et. al., I decided it was worth sending up a blogcasa flagpole. What would you do if your church told you to not adapt to the changing environment? Do you keep doing what doesn’t work? Or do you change, adapt and learn new skills in order to survive and thrive?

So much for only the strong surviving…otherwise, where is the T-Rex? Adaptation seems to serve us much better than physical strength. So odd the way we humans get trapped in patterns we can’t/don’t/won’t break out of even when our lives and existence depends on it. Great find and thanks for hooking me into sitting here totally absorbed in it for an hour. Now I’m out of quiet time and The Impossible has to wait for another day…

Strong takes on another meaning when it comes to surviving indeed, MisBehaved Woman. Glad you enjoyed it too. It surprised me when I found myself caught up in it entire piece when I wasn’t looking for anything like it at all. The Impossible is waiting for you. 🙂 Thanks for having your quiet time at my blog casa.

I guess I got caught up in it the same way you did…I didn’t realize the length when I hit play but then I didn’t move or stop it at all…was surprised how much time had passed. It is interesting to look back at how other civilizations met their ends and more so, when there are some disturbing parallels between their “old” way of think and our supposed “new” ways. I look around and how many fellow citizens cling to old-but-failing ways of doing things and I can’t help but wonder how much longer it will take before that stubborn resistance to adapting and changing sinks all of modern civilization. And on my snarkier days, I find myself wishing we’d hurry and fall already so that some of us can get on with rebuilding…but those are just the “fuckhumanitywe’reallscrewed” moments that pass. Usually 😀

Sometimes those days–I call them “red button” alert days–when it’s a good thing I’m not near a red button that would put humankind in the clinker big time–sometimes these days pass quickly. Other times they loiter and lurk until some soul shine sends them packing. Yeah not just rebuilding but imagining and creating something good for every living thing. We can live in harmony with the Earth. We need the WILL to do so.
Oh and Merci! for that news on India and the Dolphins rigths! Love that happening.
