Music Theme for Sunday December 1, 2013: Revolution
Any application of a definition of the word is on the table for exploration.
Go Political.
Go Artistic.
Go Musical.
Go Industrial.
Go Technological.
Go Scientific.
Go Spiritual.
Go Sexual.
Go Food.
Go Mental.
Go for any revolution that inspires you and uplifts your spirits. Have some FUN!
Revolution definition–with which I’m not quite satisfied, hence my commentary.
noun
1a forcible overthrow of a government or social order in favor of a new system. [I believe the Czechs in 1989 would take issue with parts of this definition as they employed NO force to oust the government. They rang their keys in the streets by the thousands. Among other things that spilled no blood and committed no forcible acts of any violence.]
(the Revolution) the American Revolution. [Obviously NOT the only apparently ‘positive’ Revolutions to ever take place in the world.]
(often the Revolution) (in Marxism) the class struggle that is expected to lead to political change and the triumph of communism. [Take note of the employment of the word ‘often’ and ‘communism’–I consider this an outdated assumption. But that’s just my view of things.]
a dramatic and wide-reaching change in the way something works or is organized or in people’s ideas about it:marketing underwent a revolution [Well, marketing isn’t an awful example, it’s just very limited, isn’t it?]
2an instance of revolving:one revolution a second [I think these three are pretty straightforward and free of bias. How about you?]
the movement of an object in a circular or elliptical course around another or about an axis or center:observing the revolution about the axis of rotation
a single orbit of one object around another or about an axis or center.
Oh yes, my secret (not so much now) desire is to be an artiste de animation deluxe! Oh yes, let’s play with colorful fantasydesires complete with soundtracks of secrets, hopes and wishesgalore. I wish I could ride a motorbike. I also wish to be fluent in French. Honestly, I do. Now check these delights out. Ahhh, all for the art of animation. Sigh. Complete with cats. Light, fluffy and hopefully not at all stuffy. Unfortunately for one a bit too stuffy. What else are bad friends for except getting us into tight spots? Slice some melon and leave aside being forlorn. It’s I-want-to-be-an-animator blogcasa night– or day. Here are some of my favorite delights. Oh it’s not all sweetness and spices. Not every dolly is nice-s. Do note, there’s food fun a-plenty. Mmm, Eve and her apples….mmm, yes. If only I had a geek brain.
Comic Fantasy –and Desire, as in yeah, watermelon would be delicious right now. Seeds, the things from which wishes grow.

Well, it’s been a rather long show, folks. I do hope you’ve all enjoyed the film-fest. That’s the thing about secrets, once they start spilling, it’s tough to stop the flow. Hmm. So now you know. What????? Oh secrets, yes. They’re everywhere. Take care.
Esther propped her feet up on the little green pillow that served no other purpose than that of being the favorite cushion of her heels. Unlike Anton who stood out of sight as far as the phone cord allowed, when she wanted privacy on the kitchen phone, she seated herself within direct line of sight of the main hallway so that she could immediately see anyone coming in her direction from any of the first floor rooms and the front door. At this time of night about the only foreseeable source of interference with her phone conversation with Rosa would be some member of the Neighborhood Watch coming through the door to report an emergency beyond the night’s crew’s ability to address on their own. Considering the extreme unlikely hood of that happening since Anton was already out with the crew making the rounds, Esther was looking forward to an uninterrupted intel sharing chat with Rosa about the tall man who for all intents and purposes was currently living in their Lily’s home space—and about whom Lily wasn’t sharing much intel at the moment.
A quick glance to make sure their agreed upon time had arrived, Esther dialed the number listed in the white pages under Ricardo’s name, and patiently waited for Rosa’s soft, “Hello.”
“Hey there, Rosa. Oh yeah, nice and quiet here too. All your little house guests doing okay? Oh heck yes, Julianna and the other girls did a fine job sorting all those clothes. Tomorrow I’ll give them some needle and thread action on some jeans. Boys too, if any are so inclined. So how are things on the first floor? Hmm? That tall man still behavin’ like a gentleman? Ricardo share any intel? He what? The whole day? Maybe they both on the same wavelength. Hell yes, you make the most of that child care action. That girl got a whole litter of cat curiosity inside her just waiting to jump on the unsuspecting rest of us. Lily say anything about all that? Ahh ha. Oh yeah, dancin’ in the hallway again? Tonight? Well, that’s one form of sweet touch action, I guess. Nope. All intel Anton share be about that Zinn history book he and Sarge both read some time back and been having some serious hard talk about. Anton says it solid evidence Big Man got a mind can play on the same field with Lily. Her numbers action aside, of course. Yes, you’re right about that, Rosa. Esther hear you loud and clear. . . mmmmm.
When Esther and Rosa hung up their phones twenty minutes later, they each gave some serious thought to what they considered the most important things they’d learned via direct experiences about the males of the species over time. Rosa quietly wandered down to the second floor landing midway to the first floor and listened to the sound of music still coming from Lily’s home space. Sitting down on the step to the second floor landing, she lost track of the music while thinking about her little niece’s behavior with the tall gringo and wondering what to make of it. Ricardo wasn’t just unconcerned, he was downright thankful that there was now an extra mind and pair of hands to help deal with Marianna and her mischief, especially on days like today. Rosa couldn’t fault him on that point. It was clear Marianna needed more one to one attention than she or Ricardo had been able to spare under the current circumstances. Yet with all the people moving through her world every day, Marianna had zeroed in on the very newest and most unknown adult available. Lily had told her that aside from reading a book with her and making sure Marianna didn’t con Sarge into preparing more food than her little stomach could possibly hold, no matter what the six-year-old claimed, the girl had indeed spent the majority of the time downstairs constantly interacting with him even after she’d returned from helping Esther with “sun rise” projects. It wasn’t lost upon Rosa that this seemed to please Lily in some sense that she hadn’t divulged to Rosa.
Meanwhile, at exactly the same time, Esther made her way to the dark bay window seat that faced Rosa’s house across the snow buried street. Making herself comfortable, she contemplated the fact that her Anton was actually putting forth efforts to develop more than a causal passing acquaintance with a man from a side of the tracks he generally had no interest in visiting. She’d overheard enough of their conversations to realize they were both enjoying being able discuss ideas and books without having to worry about their manner of doing so in regards to proper language usage or any other intellectual formality. Sarge was not put off by Anton’s lapses into what he called his ‘street chimes’. She had even heard him occasionally use some of the lingo himself when in the company of certain groups of the neighborhood men. As for Anton, he’d told her outright that he honestly didn’t mind listening to what he called Sarge’s occasional monologues because it was clear the man wasn’trying to play ego games, but just really needed to get his thoughts out of his brain-space. Plus, he always welcomed Anton’s reactions and thoughts with an openness and lack of bias that was prompting Anton to share a great deal more of his own thinking than he generally did with anyone besides Esther and a few other people. Her husband felt like they’d created a certain sort of safe space for speaking their minds without any control or dominance issues—and that was feeling good to Anton especially under the circumstances created by the current weather lockdown.
At about the same moment in time, both women thought along the same lines of: forget whatever Karen’s cat might have dragged into Rosa’s house in the Flats, the important thing now was, what kind of man had their Lily hauled directly into her home and life with no apparent intention of sending him any further on his way.

Music Notes: Snoozer Quinn, Snoozer’s Telephone Blues
The legendary guitarist Ed ‘Snoozer’ Quinn (1907-1949) performing ‘Snoozer’s Telephone Blues.’ Recorded by his friend, the cornetist Johnny Wiggs, at the Charity Hospital, New Orleans, in 1948.
This has so much cool information about heat that I just have to share it! Have mushrooms ever been put to such non-culinary great use ever before? Tiny homes warmed by fungi. Yes, you too can get your very own cozy pine nest. I’m not kidding. They’re not kidding. It’s for REAL. Imagination rules when it comes to creating POSITIVE change.
Mushroom® Materials were inspired by the woods of Vermont as a replacement for plastic foams. Ecovative’s patented process combines agricultural byproducts with fungal mycelium, a natural, self-assembling binder, to literally grow high performance insulation. We grew a tiny house on a trailer as a radical demonstration of this technology, and this is now available for sale as a kit. The tiny house market is small but growing rapidly, and we see this as a proving ground for the $21B rigid board foam insulation market.
Rigid board insulation like extruded polystyrene is made of finite petrochemicals, and often includes high global-warming potential blowing gasses that seep out over time, lowering the aged R-value. Loose fill and batt insulation can settle, especially in a movable tiny house, which compromises effectiveness. In order to meet fire safety codes, nearly all rigid board and loose fill insulation materials are made with harsh flame…
Answer to post subject title question— I have no idea regarding what more. Oh that’s a lie. Sure I do. But that’s beside the point here when it comes to Chicken With Plums. Let’s put it this way, I ate the entire film meal and loved it.
burp
Is it possible to write a review and give nothing away about the content? Why would I want to do that if I’m pitching a story to people who are all about ‘what’s going on here’? For my own churlish amusement, I guess. Honestly, I think the film trailer gives away far too much information as it is. That’s not really fair considering this isn’t a film about some devious plot to overthrow the world order. Nope. It’s certainly not a film about that sort of sordid messiness. It’s more of an adventure into a few human hearts., how things are connected, intense smoke and controlling parents. Now does that last qualify as a spoiler or not? Nawww, I don’t think it does. That’s not exactly a breaking news story–though there are a few broken things here.
What makes a great story? What keeps you reading a book? Why do you keep watching a movie? Is it intricate plotting and scheming? Cunning and creepy characters with caustic conversation? Thrill seeking vicarious stunt action? Fast cars and hot women–and men? How about a not so fast train, plane and a boat? Frankly I think we need to redefine the nature of ‘hot’ for both men and women on main streets. But that discussion doesn’t really fit here so I’m going to leave it alone–if I can. Back to the swing of things: Stunning images and exotic locations? What is that special bait that gets the hook in your brain box and keeps you reading and watching? What trips your entertainment traps? What feathers tickle you humor bones? By the way, do you enjoy random visits with Death?
What kind of story do you pick for a chilly night with the home-fires? Do your fingers dance to drama, comedy, tragedy or romance? Or some giddy brew of everything? Check out the examples suggested and get back to me asap. Please feel free to suggest other examples. Hint, that’s what the blank lines are supposed to encourage you to do. If it’s not working, let me know and we’ll revise accordingly. Thanks for your input even though you’ve yet to offer any. Yet.
Tragedy ______ as in Othello
Comedy ______ as in Monty Python and the Holy Grail
Romance ______ as in Moonrise Kingdom
Drama _______ as in Elizabeth Taylor On A Hot Tin Roof
Action _______ as in Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon
Me? What do I pick? I do it all as long as it’s got the goods to keep my imagination engaged. I like a full plate of a solid story, no-big-box characters, delicious visuals, and sensual sounds. Yesterday evening’s top film pick was Chicken With Plums. Yes I indulged in several otheres, but, sigh, as amusing as they were, no other was qualifed for TOP billing except the film with the fruit. I would love to ramble on and on about this delight. But I won’t. It would pull the rug out from the act of discovery and exploration. Taste it for yourself. Oh, and if you’ve never eaten plums except with your breakfast–you’ve been missing out on some damn fine sweet stuff. Consider yourself DEPRIVED. Hmm…maybe it’s not in my best interests to encourage others to eat plums as that will mean fewer plums for moi. How do I talk about this film without mentioning plums when they’re the last word in the title? Chicken With ____ is not the way to go. That fill in the blank with your favorite fruit just isn’t working for me. How about you?
Chicken With Plums
Chicken With Plums Movie Trailer (2012). The french movie, directed by Marjane Satrapi and Vincent Paronnaud is set in Teheran, in 1958. From the Writers and director of Persepolis anime movie.
Note: The trailer says “Coming Soon” but the film has already come. No, you don’t have to go to France to see it. Silly bunnies.
Dessert?
Why yes, thank you. I don’t mind if I do. I’d like Chocolat.
PS, Were you expecting depraved instead of deprived? If so, what’s that tell you about you? No need to share. It’s quite alright to keep some things to ourselves.
Oh and if this is the most unsatisfying review of a film that you’ve ever read, please don’t hold it against Chicken With Plums. Don’t deprive yourself any longer than necessary on my account.
Okay, well, after a technical ‘fail’ this post is back–almost–minus one until found again. Definitely without all my chatter about it –for the moment.
Yes, this is the Ascent for Fire. I guess the first posting effort ascended somewhere other than ‘here.’
Now, interesting side notes to this post that doesn’t want to stay grounded:–I selected these pieces first. But my commentary for those other selections in that other post was completed first. Not sure I want to start reading anything into any of this, but it might be telling–or not.
For now.

Serpent of Fire
Lyrics by Ricky Asmodeous and Raven Lythrum
Composed by Raven Lythrum
Your presence magnifies
A journey that shall not repeat
Part of it is you, and all of it is me
A potent energy, that set’s my wings free
I fly without thinking, you’ve set me free
Light all the embers
Set there a fire
Deep in my heart lies my soul’s desire
Drown me in water
My soul has grown dire
deep in my heart lies my soul’s desire
Is the serpent of fire
As I calm my mind I ascend
Burning on without an end
The seals have been torn away
I feel the heat and consummate
Through serpents eyes I rise, ignoring outside lies
Turning the led to gold, breaking the enemies hold
Light all the embers
Set there a fire
Deep in my heart lies my soul’s desire
Drown me in water
My soul has grown dire
deep in my heart lies my soul’s desire
Is the serpent of fire
The serpent shall blend and will mend
My mind as my soul ascends
The lies have been cleared from my path
So don’t run away from the past
Light all the embers
Set there a fire
Deep in my heart lies my soul’s desire
Drown me in water
My soul has grown dire
deep in my heart lies my soul’s desire
Is the serpent of fire

Concrete Conceptualization of Fire.
Adele~ Set Fire to the Rain ~Fire on ice? Why not? Let’s mix our elements why don’t we? Some water, some hot skating on ice and a passionate song. Oh this fire and rain does not flow according that by Mr. Jimmy Taylor.
Two flames dance into the night One steps to the left, the other leaps right Winds of change provide food for flight No way of knowing what sparks may ignite
Separating… merging… as if on cue Dressed in golds and red-hot blues Tempestuous, breath-taking, move after move No plan, no rehearsal… It’s die or do
Each step, each flame, fueled by desire She builds him up, he lifts her higher Mesmerized gazes wonder what will transpire Will they simply burn out? or spread like wildfire?

Conceptualization of the Fire of love.
June Carter Cash ~ Ring of Fire
Most people associate this song with Johnny Cash. I connect it with June because it is her creation. Interesting how the singer goes ‘down’ while the flames go ‘higher’.

Conceptualization of Concrete Fire literally in the hole— as in the coal mine along with inspiration, protest against exploitation, fire inside and out and deep in the ground.
Whatever goes up must go down and whatever goes down must go up. Right? Huh? Yeah, for the sake of stairs and ladders which usually go in both directions, unless they’re the escalator steps in the Hungarian film Kontroll–no one knows where those escalators really go.

Anyway, fire burns up and down. If you’re a good fire-keeper then some down time embers go up again with some well blown O2. Are things getting out of hand here? Noooooo way. Or maybe by the end of the post things might be a tad untidy?
Blame this all on the chocolate-coconut-pecan taco. If you don’t know what that is hit the search box for another kind of breakfast special.

Reason five: I’ve got a thing for the keyboard man. Yeah, right. Reason six: People in the audience get to scream~squeal into the mic. Reason seven: Girl follows Jim under the stage. Yes, under the stage.

Electric Six is here because, well damn it, I’ve had to listen to this song by Electric Six a lot by default. By default, I mean that it’s a favorite of someone in my abode and hence is played OFTEN. What’s the point of demanding and support freedom of thought and expression if you don’t follow through in your own home domain? Not much in my opinion. After years of exposure to the song and the video it was no surprise to moi that Danger! High Voltage came immediately to my brain-pan when I read that Bear’s theme choice was Fire. Honestly, “Fire in the disco!” was instantly on the scene. It’s not everyone’s cup of tea but it has been listened to and viewed with many cups of tea at hand for perhaps its number one fan with a mouse at their disposal. I have no idea what Grandmother Fire would make of this video beyond the fact that, yeah it is base human nature to “keep starting fires.”
Note: “Play” at your risk, potentially offensive language and image contents for some sensibilities. Or maybe not?

Next, so much for The Good Old Days– Not so much, methinks.
Note: Very Strong offensive language content. What do you expect from a song about going to hell? Polite conversation? Not here. Not now. Not today, anyway.
Nick Cave ~ Fire Down Below, from Rogues Gallery: Pirate Ballads, Sea Songs, and Chanteys, ANTI- 2006.
Liner notes by Anti-: http://www.anti.com/catalog/view/67/P…
A popular pumping chantey, this was actually the last chantey sung aboard a commercial British square-rigger, by Stan Hugill in 1929, as the barque Garthpool was pumped out for the last time. There are a number of versions, and in some the “fire down below” is more explicitly a reference to venereal disease.
Heads up, documentary film, Young Lakota to air on Independent Lens on November 25, 2013.
I am wondering how in-depth this documentary will delve into the ongoing issues facing young Lakota –especially young Lakota women. From the trailer it appears to address at some level the sexual violence endured by many Indigenous women. I’ve provided links to two very important documents created by Amnesty International. Depending on your awareness of the issues they may or may not prove to be very disturbing reading. I think they’re required reading for anyone entering into a serious discussion of violence, abortion, and sexual issues concerning Indigenous women–and all others as well.
As I could not get the video on the link via TT to work properly I ventured to the tubes of you for an alternative which is posted here. I’ve included the links cited on Turtle Talk as well.

10 .m. EST, Monday, Nov. 25, on PBS’s Independent Lens. The film chronicles Tribal President Cecelia Fire Thunder’s challenge to a proposed abortion ban in South Dakota, and the political awakening she inspires in Sunny Clifford, a young Lakota woman living on the Pine Ridge Reservation.
Young Lakota was an Official Selection at the Big Sky Film Festival, the New Orleans Film Festival, the American Indian Film Festival, and won Best Documentary at Cine Las Americas and the Smithsonian Showcase.
