All Things TV– with Music theme– Hey, there’s people in that box! How’d they get there? What’s that sound?

Music selections for “All Things TV” could go in so many directions that I’m dying to find out what Bear, Willow and Johnny have posted. I’m NOT looking until I get this post into my blogcasa.  Television is a medium with a great deal of untapped POSITIVE potential.  There’s been some over the years, depending on your view of reality–scratches head about those shows I don’t know why money and time is wasted upon when there’s some much great stuff PBS could be overflowing with–but for the most part, it’s hardly scratched the surface of what it could do. I think that’s why the internet is so vital a resource–as long as it’s UNcontrolled and Uncensored. Hmm. Yeah. We’ve got some problems on that score, Houston. Yes, this creates problem because you get the good with the bad–ooo sounds just like the choices in certain garden of Earthly delights…hmm. Okay, trying to keep an open mind is often a troublesome venture indeed. From personal experience I do know that the strange box can inform, educate and inspire the imagination by bringing new things into a curious mind without the means to travel at will. What you get depends on what channel you select–just like where you go in cyberspace depends on where your fingertips take you via the symbols on your keyboard.

I’m hoping that between the four of us participating in this theme spree that all our views are expanded.

As I recently shared with Johnny–just go with the flow–I’m sharing what flowed my way. Please feel free to share your take on Musical Selections for “All Things TV”.  Careful –ALL–covers a lot of territory. LOL.

To start off here’s some warm fuzzies for real via television–on-screen love story goes live. I could have selected a totally musical version, but I thought this works better for people who otherwise would have no clue what’s going here or why I’ve posted it.

“At This Moment” –I think the vocalist is Billy Vera.

Yeah, it was odd, and very nice, watching Michael J. Fox fall hard for Tracy Polland on a television show called “Family Ties.” Considering his return to television as a TV personally with Parkinson’s this is a tip of the hat to him –and a media that usually wants everyone on-screen Picture Perfect. Maybe it’s finally growing up? Hmm. Yeah, that might be stretching it way too much for American television.

“The Revolution Will Not Be Televised” by Gil Scott-Heron—Or will it? Oh those damn smart phones and all their streamings. Heads Up!

First there was MASH taking on the Korean War experience and then there was China Beach.   I think my son learned a few things about the world at large a little too soon watching this program.  It might have contributed to his ongoing perspective: “It’s all pointless.”  Not to mention his attitude towards the recruiters who kept calling on the phone via the No Child Left Behind agenda that provides student info to the armed forces.  Everyone was always polite –until he told them he didn’t want to travel around the world killing people and trying not to get his head blown off. Yeah, that sort of put a damper on their ‘get money for your higher education goals’ carrot.

One reason Why the Smothers Brothers Show was cancelled by CBS ~~  Or  ~~~ Comedy  gets the axe for finally going too far to be tolerated.  Pete Seeger sang and was recorded and was cut from the show already in deep shit for its political satire. I’ve included the Smothers Brothers’ interview for some contextual background information.

Well the lyrics pretty much say it all. I selected this particular video partly for the incredible energy of the performance, the views, the audience and the discussion after the song.  Also, the lyrics are uncensored.
Green Day “American Idiot”
Don’t want to be an American idiot.
Don’t want a nation under the new media.
And can you hear the sound of hysteria?
The subliminal mind-fuck America.Welcome to a new kind of tension.
All across the alien nation.
Where everything isn’t meant to be okay.
Television dreams of tomorrow.
We’re not the ones who’re meant to follow.
For that’s enough to argue.

Well maybe I’m the faggot America.
I’m not a part of a redneck agenda.
Now everybody do the propaganda.
And sing along to the age of paranoia.

Welcome to a new kind of tension.
All across the alien nation.
Where everything isn’t meant to be okay.
Television dreams of tomorrow.
We’re not the ones who’re meant to follow.
For that’s enough to argue.

Don’t want to be an American idiot.
One nation controlled by the media.
Information Age of hysteria.
It’s calling out to idiot America.

Welcome to a new kind of tension.
All across the alien nation.
Where everything isn’t meant to be okay.
Television dreams of tomorrow.
We’re not the ones who’re meant to follow.
For that’s enough to argue.

Needing to cool down… “Winter in America”

Yeah, the mercury is pushing 100 heat today. It’s not nice. Clothes on rack are air drying fast in the front yard.  Otherwise tt’s not walkable outside. The birds are hiding in their shade pockets. Plants are digging deep.  And the political scene in America is as palatable as a bowl of dirty dust particles from Mars.  I’m hiding in some shade of my own with Giacomo Gates vocalizing The revolution will be jazz.  Found Gil Scott-Heron live performing “Winter in America” on the tubes of you so I’m sharing.

The occupation is not being televised. Or is it?

At this point in time the lack of mainstream news coverage of the ongoing Occupy Wall Street event is becoming news in itself. As more people become aware of the now week-long effort to raise awareness of the 99% of the population who are NOT reaping the benefits of Wall Street shenanigans–the more glaring the lack of coverage becomes.  Yet this lack is not really surprising. It is most predictable considering the present nature of the media that flows nightly into the homes of millions of Americans.  Ironically, many of these same Americans unknowingly have a vested interest in the efforts of the occupiers who are from their non-Wall Street ranks.  Yet, showing Americans other Americans engaged in protests like the recent Tar Sands Keystone XL arrests in front the White House for two solid weeks during which over 1,253 were arrested, seems to make the Americans who own and run news broadcasts in America very uncomfortable. Why is that? Have they forgotten that the goal of their occasionally respectable profession is to inform people?  Naw….they haven’t forgotten.  They’ve been co-opted, sold out, and/or taken over by certain interest groups who are distinctly uncomfortable with anyone/anything that rocks the boat of the status quo–no matter how badly that boat is taking on water. Like climate change deniers, news media deniers cannot make the reality go away. Climate change is not invisible nor is the Occupy Wall Street protest.  Tuning into the livestream video at Peaceful Uprising and elsewhere online may not bring stunning images of dramatic nonstop action into your brainpan. But it will provide a sense of what is involved in such activism. Yes, there are scenes of Police presence and arrests when the occupiers are on the move. There are interesting arenas of group communication and consensus reaching efforts during the General Assemblies. There’s a great deal of dealing with the practical issues of everything from keeping the video operating to information on where/how to donate food supplies. Occupations require the necessities of daily life. Who knew? In many ways this is a practical primer for such activist efforts. Is it any wonder the mainstream media is avoiding it like the plague?
