Media, Music and Movies ~ For Uranium Mining On Navajo Land, Plus Snow From Sewage

Yes, it’s Monday. It’s St. Patrick’s Day. It’s national beer drinking day for a lot of folks.

But it’s also another day in the ongoing fight against uranium mining and its consequences everywhere from the past to the present.

On March 14, 2014 independent journalist Amy Goodman reported from Flagstaff, Arizona about the ongoing environmental and health issues connected with uranium mining and its long-term consequences for the Dine ~ Navajo people.  The main portion of her video report is posted here but there is a great deal more information and related coverage on Democracy Now!’s site.  Part of the Democracy Now! broadcast discussed the use of music and film by to raise awareness and share information regarding issues.  To supplement DN!’s coverage I’ve included two videos featuring Klee Benally’s music and an informative video about Outta Your Backpack Media which teaches Indigenous people how to make and use movies to address the need for media justice and coverage in their communities.  There’s a trailer for the film The Return of Navajo Boy which is referenced in the news piece.  The film’s website –> http://navajoboy.com/.  Democracy Now!’s page for the story also includes links to information and related stories.

America’s Unjust Justice System ~ Bryan Stevenson’s Ted talk ~ Please Lend Your Ears

Facebook does indeed have merit as an information source when such insightful pieces comes through the news feed. The Restorative Justice League of Le Grand High School jumps in to save the day

Schools and The Restorative Justice League–someone is doing something right for a change!

ACEs Too High

A teen starts a fistfight with a fellow student. Another brings alcohol to school. Another urinates on a fellow student’s locker, and a fight ensues.

Three years ago at Le Grand High School, in Le Grand, CA, these students would have been immediately expelled or suspended. This year, they weren’t. They didn’t miss any classes. They made amends. They learned from their mistakes.

In 2010-2011, Principal Javier Martinez suspended 49 students and expelled six. Last year, he suspended 15 and expelled only one.

This school year, with the help of the Restorative Justice League, he’s going for double zeros.

I Have Seen ‘The Lone Ranger’ and It’s GREAT FUN! I hate dumb-ass moronic toilet humor. Dark edgy creative shyte is right up my alley. Oh, it helps if you know some American History that ‘hurts’.

I’ve read the comments at Rotten Tomatoes and have decided those critics are full of horse-shyte.  YEAH! For the first time in a long time I was laughing out LOUD in a movie theater and clapping.  The Brotherhood of the Wolf wasn’t a funny film, but it was incredible on the big screen at a special viewing to test it in my area. I have never before–or since–been in a movie theatre where the entire audience, a fully packed large viewing room, stood up and applauded a film. Yes, I applauded that film and applaud The Lone Ranger–even if it’s all by myself! Raspberries to all naysayers!

If you know nothing about the dark side of American history you can still enjoy The Lone Ranger for its visual beauty, its over the top grand funky action, its delicious humor which is way above the toilet bowl variety many people settle for these days because it’s what the American movie industry dumbs them down with, one of the BEST uses of the William Tell Overture EVER as a soundtrack, the badass white spirit horse, and –ladies, if Armie Hammer ain’t the hottest big man on two feet I don’t know who is! Yes, I will take that man and a side of dynamite to go, please! And yes, it does have a lot of ‘fun’ with the original concept of The Lone Ranger, justice and how the series was played out long ago in a different day and age.  Depp is wonderfully deadpan. Hammer plays the naive idealist to the hilt, “It’s just not done.” Luther fans will wish for more meat for Ruth Wilson’s role–but hey, she’s ‘here’. Helena Bonham-Carter–well, hell, when isn’t she in top form? Never. All the BAD guys are really BAD! William Fitchtner rocks as Butch Cavendish (hehe–guess what I’m thinking). Tom Wilkinson delivers the acting goods as he always does.  You can have a great time with just all these goodies in the movie basket.

IF you are fairly well-informed about the dark side of American history then get ready for a full, no holds barred assault on–let’s make a list:

*the genocide of the Native Americans

*the corruption of the  military – industrial complex

*greed aka the American Way or Manifest Destiny if you prefer

*progress at any cost–Btw, what is progress really? Think about that one folks. Think HARD.

*the exploitation of immigrant workers

*kill the labor leader and stop the rebellion of the slave laborers

*there’s silver in them there hills–hey, gold rush, silver mines –samo samo

*the destruction of the environment–yeah, you can ‘frack’ a lot with dynamite and nitroglycerine

*all the harm an iron horse can do as it moves across a continent

*shall we talk about guns and violence?

*justice is blind–or maybe just blindfolded

*the legal system has nothing to do with justice, truth or what’s right and wrong

*women for a price–there are no free rides–and there are all kinds of prices and ways to pay and pay and pay

*oh, let’s take a whack at good christian folk too while we’re at it. Yeah, being saved and/or born again does not make people compassionate, loving and kind. No way.  If I’m offending anyone–well, sorry, but if you’re going to dish it out, you better be able to take it right back ’cause turn around is fair play. Hey, it’s what the script does. Yep.

Do I need to say more?

I could.

We have a problem, Huston: Ride for Justice–who the hell dares do that?

Refresh Mother Earth with the Black Mesa Water Coalition, yá’át’ééh

Video by Paper Rocket Productions LLC

Please meet some of the people who form the Black Mesa Water Coalition. Roberto Nutlouis and others attended the Indigenous Environmental Network Conference on the Rights of Mother Earth in April.  They’re deep into water issues in Navajo and Hopi Country and creating Green businesses to support their traditional communities working to develop sustainable economies. Since they are a part of these communities they have a vested interest in their future.  We are all a part of the community of Earth. So we are all connected. We are all related.

Bidder 70 Single-handedly Foiled Gas & Oil Exploitation in Utah–Thank you, Tim DeChristopher.

In a very real sense Bidder 70,  Tim DeChristopher, has been found guilty of a lack of premeditation in regard to his effort to save public lands in Utah from gas and oil company exploitation via illegal land sales.  Yes, illegal even according to Interior Secretary Salazar.  Having watched way too much crime drama on the idiot box, I find it strange that a judge would not allow DeChristophers’s MOTIVE for his actions be part of his defense. What was Tim DeChristopher’s motive? To save public lands from illegal land sales to gas and oil companies.  Huh, and that’s a ‘bad’ thing? It’s a motive the judge clearly didn’t want spread about in the media. Such a motive might give people ideas, raise some serious questions, and might incite a huge public uproar? If you haven’t heard of Bidder 70, ask yourself why not? Seriously–ask why information about Tim DeChristopher’s spontaneous action in 2008 has not reached your over stimulated eyes and ears.  Believe me, Obama and friends are very well aware of DeChristopher and his rescue of public land from the shady fun and games of the Bush playbook. Why isn’t all of America debating the issues that Bidder 70’s Trial raise? Why aren’t we all talking about a young man who has NO regrets for doing what he did and is willing to pay the legal price because he knows he did what needed to be done? Why aren’t we all questioning how our public lands are under threat by companies which are responsible for the destruction of our environment–the very environment that supports our ability to LIVE? Guess what America, it’s illegal to engage in ethical, moral, just action to save the Earth.  Would you do what Tim DeChristopher did when he entered that auction and began bidding? Interesting to also note that the judge would NOT allow the fact that DeChristopher actually raised the money to buy the lands he bid on to be part of his legal defence. Yes, Bidder 70 actually was going to play the rules of the game and PAY for the lands he won through bidding at an auction. But the jury was not allowed to know this information.  What’s that tell you?

AND

On the ongoing Peaceful Uprising in Mad-City–there’s a “rumor” that Dennis Kucinich will speak at the rally on Saturday. I suspect this rumor is true.

Btw, it’s also tractor rally time in Madison this Saturday as the Farmers protest the “Repair” bill’s cutting consequences for their Badger Care.

Billionaires = “Budget” Busting Buds with Benefits: Beast Bait Banter Beams: Walker Is Koch Cozy

For those of us following developments in Mad-city the Beast Prank is “old” news.  But if you’re trying to catch up on all the fuss, I’m doing my tiny part to help out.  I think we’ve all got Dictator Scott Walker under our belts by now. Walker’s  Koch connection might need a little of that transparency which is the current media byword that seems to have replaced truth, honesty and integrity.  Every time I hear the word all I can think of are see-through dresses–huh? Yeah, go figure how my brainpan spills regarding word associations. Enough of my egocentric language allusions.

Let’s start with getting some visuals on the Koch Bros courtesy of Amy Goodman’s Democracy Now! headline:

If you’re wandering around capitol square in Mad-city, be sure to pay a visit to the Kochs’ lobbyists’ office there. I’m sure it’s clearly marked for tea party tourists and progressives liberals alike.  Shh! Don’t let on if you support Greenpeace environmental actions.

Still scratching your scalp and thinking hard to  place these fellows? Koch who? Wanting more info? No problem, Greenpeace has the goods on the environmental blues billionaire brothers.

Desiring something less esoteric than Greenpeace satire? Perhaps the Turks are more to your brainpan’s liking. The Young Turks clarify the Koch agenda via the Kochs’ own letters:

Oh my, where are the teabaggers when Kochs need them? These folks sure are NOT buying what the Kochs are selling. Some coverage of a recent rally to protest secret meeting of Kochs with other big wig movers and shakers, including Clarence Thomas and Antoine Scalia. Yes, those supreme court justices are Koch cozies.  OMG–is this what corporate personhood is all about???

Audio Beast:

In case the Beast link FAILS, you can read a transcript of WI Rep. Gov. Scott Walker’s  fun and games with faux Koch at –>

Ian Murphy of Buffalo Beast poses as David Koch and gets more ear respect  from Gov. Walker than he gives to the people camped in the capital building. Being a Billionaire has benefits, right? The Beast site is back up and running. You can read and hear yourself  Ian Murphy’s prank foreplay and Walker’s shamelessness:

Craving some floor sight human interest news? Views of the occupying force camping at the capital charm:

http://host.madison.com/video/#vmix_media_id=65834391

Another quick kick at the Kochs and their billionaire cronies:

So, now is everyone “good” on the elusive Koch Bros? If you’re not a conservative billionaire Republican or a Supreme Court Justice willing to play corporate personhood ball, they could be a tough click capture for your camera safari on the mean streets of Wichita, Kansas.

BIG picture parting shot.  Does your child have a dark side? Mine sure do. I don’t wonder why. I think they’re in cahoots with this kid. –>
