Flash Mobs for Everyone! Let’s Sing and Swing!

Time for true confessions: the reason I picked this “Flash Mob” musical theme is because I got so carried away with willowdot21’s  “All Things Travel” theme that I could not resist continuing travelling around the world.  Blame the choice of Flash Mobs all on the “Ode to Joy” video which I’ve included here because it was the piece that sent me searching for mobs in places of transportation. Yes, you can travel the world via Flash Mobs everywhere. Some of them will even moon you. Yes, indeed, five guys and a fountain where it’s illegal to wade…yeah, I wonder if Bear, Willowdot21 or Johnny have selected that piece of young guy fun?  What I enjoy most about these Mobs are the expressions on those watching and those performing.
Enjoy, be careful with the mob from Moscow. Damn, I wonder what sort of a riot one hot guy with a boombox can incite if he were inclined to do so? LOL.
Imagine all the great music, fun and dancing everyone could be enjoying every day around the world if all the warmongering would just cease and desist. As Tracy Chapman sings: This could be heaven here on Earth.
~
Willowdot21, Bollywood selections are for you. 🙂

Quick Flick Picks

Okay the heat is UP UP UP and so is the electric bill due to the NEED for air conditioning and fans to prevent being boiled alive like lobsters in a pot inside your own home. So here is a suggestion if you’re pressed hard for disposable cash and yet desiring some decent escapism from your local heat wave. Though it is my understanding that in some parts of the world waves of rain are causing very serious flooding. Ah weather extremes–what do they mean. Well if we’re brutally honest we know full well what they mean. But–right now the issue is heat relief and some decent entertainment at a price we can afford.  If you’re not aware that your local public library probably has movies available to check out either entirely free or for the nominal fee of one brilliantly useless American dollar, as my public library charges for the price of walking off with a brand new dvd for about a week, then you need to explore this heat distraction avenue asap!

Here is a list of some of the flicks on dvd that I have enjoyed so far via my public library.  Several of which they actually purchased via requests for recommendations.  Your suggestions and comments are very welcome here. Please share whatever film gems you’ve discovered no matter what the genre.  While I’m no ardent fan of Animal House or SAW fare I realize other folks are often on the lookout for such entertainment. So please don’t hesitate to share whatever flicks trip your dvd playing trap.

And now on with the shows:

Salmon Fishing in the Yemen — Love of fishing not required for viewing. In my opinion Ewan McGregor steals the show quite delightfully.

The King’s Speech — I may have been one of a handful of folks who did not view this film until recently. Unexpectedly throughly enjoyed the damn royal flick trick.

The Aura — Do all taxidermists have imaginations like this or only the ones in Argentina?

http://www.rezbomb.com/

Rez Bomb — Lakota girl and White boy fall in love and find a whole lot of trouble on the Pine Ridge Reservation.

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0212132/

The Tracker —  Just f * $ & ing damn BRILLIANT!!!!

Submarine — Ah young gangly British love….

Memories of Murder — Do NOT watch this with the dubbing. Read the subtitles. The dubbing destroys the integrity of the film so badly it ought to be removed as an option. I watched it both ways after making the mistake of trying the dubbed route.  Very soon it became evident that something was not right. This is an EXCELLENT Korean film that offers visual beauty, an unnerving and complex storyline and memorable performances.

The Crazies — A surprisingly satisfying modern chemical horror story.  Yes, I’m serious, it’s pretty damn good stuff.

Reel Injun– I’ve plugged this documentary earlier and am doing so again. It bears watching–and Chris Hill offers great comic relief.

http://www.thepipethefilm.com/

The Pipe — Viewed this documentary on Hulu–free at the time. It offers an interesting view of the people battling Shell Oil’s proposed pipeline in Ireland. For more information about the protests ongoing for about 12 years now visit Shell to Sea online. Who says the government works for the people?

Okay, now what’s been twirling in YOUR dvd players?

Columbus’ Heirs = Oil Companies

Yes, the modern natural heirs to the value, cultural and psychological legacy of Christopher Columbus are clearly represented by Oil companies like Chevron, Shell, and BP. If the people of the Gulf Coast really want to see their future after coverage of the BP disaster fades from mainstream news media they can look at the ongoing legal battle between the Indigenous people of Ecuador and  Chevron Oil.  Or they can consider the terrifying decades long running conflict between Indigenous people and Oil companies in the Niger Delta . Recently corporations which were granted ‘personhood’ rights for political contributions have been granted immunity from legal actions for the kidnapping, torture and murder  of anti-Oil activists. Yes, Oil companies get to have their cake and eat it too. Well, I guess that would be they get to pump oil without responsibility. This is just one environmental issue on which Indigenous Peoples are on the front lines facing down corporations that ‘develop’ the natural resources to the detriment of all living things, including themselves.  Heads up, corporations are composed of people, human beings, and guess what –all human beings are vulnerable to toxic  pollutants.

Where are the instruments of our own destruction? In our gas tanks. In our minds. In our values. In our lifestyles.  In our hearts? In our DNA?

They’re red, black, and brown people and they’ve got more than a few clues based on direct experience.

Watching in the Amazon and beyond

Think that just plugging that spilling in the Gulf of Mexico is the only problem of big oil companies? Oil companies which by the way want nothing more than for everyone to remain DEPENDENT on the black gold they mine and want to continue mining until THEY have alternatives ready to roll for their profit machines.  Want to know how oil companies deal with local populations then just click  to  http://www.amazonwatch.org/  the site of Amazon Watch where there much to ‘wow’ about regarding Chevron’s tactics for legal evasion of responsibilty for their well informed and deliberate toxic adventures in Ecuador. Or check out what’s spilling in Peru.

Ecuador has an interesting idea–keeping its oil in the ground. No kidding– http://www.democracynow.org/2009/12/11/ecuadorian_activist_heads_to_cop15_with

And there’s always the ongoing long term despair of the people of the Niger Delta to consider when continuing our addiction to that “Texas Tea”…… http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Conflict_in_the_Niger_Delta

Have they indeed ‘scored’ in Peru?

According to Survial’s site the Peruvian Congress is backing down on their laws to develop the rainforests. Have the Indigenous People truly scored a serious mark in this deadly serious ‘game’ of corporate development versus real people’s lives at stake? Do we dare hope for the emergence of a new understanding of the need to not only maintain but to enlarge the scope and range of the earth’s remaining vital natural environments? Can Peru’s Indigenous people help the rest of the world figure out the real priorities and what’s at stake by setting an example of informed, unified, focused action? Is there hope for homo sapiens? Who knows—but the Indigenous People of Peru clearly have upped the ante for all of us—real living versus extinction.

Not Just Another Pretty Face, Q’Orianka Kilcher

Q’Orianka Kilcher, star of The New World, is quickly proving that she has definitely more than beauty and acting talent as she has been publically speaking out in support of the Indigenous People protesting the proposed destruction of their rainforest homes. Yes, the young woman has the audacity to actually call out Alan Garcia for committing genocide against the Peruvian Indian Prostestors.

http://thegreenloopblog.com/category/news

It’s very compelling, and overflowing with irony,  when an eco fashion site like greenloop offers coverage of the Indians’ protests in Peru while mainstream American media seems intent on ignoring the events. Apparently American corporate run news has a limited attention span–ie, Iran is all that matters–and who wants to touch ‘genocide’ in action? Especially ‘genocide’ that boldly illustrates the fundamental values war emerging on a global level.

Indigenous Courage in Peru

Anyone care to predict where the human species needs to go in order to truly save the one and only planet homo sapiens exists on? Well it’s clear that the Indigenous people of Peru have sorted out the answer to the question: Protect the natural environment at all cost. What’s happening in Peru illustrates the basic struggle between corporate greed and ongoing insanity in regard to the rainforests, the lungs of the world, and those who understand this best because their daily lives depend upon the health and well being of the rainforest–Indigenous people living in the forests. Take note that so far mainstream media is keeping far away from covering this unfolding story. But Indian Country Today has it as their top story, Democracy Now put it out on the radio airwaves and those journalists some people tooting  guns like to shoot, Al Jazeera News, has coverage. Surfing the web can pull up even exclusive video on U tube. An Aussie I know informed me that there’s almost no hint of Peru’s issues in the land down under. Another question is how well the Indians armed with spears will fare in the face off against Peru’s Military guns? Indian Country Today’s cartoon put it in stark black and white with a man armed with a knife locked in a struggle with a soldier with a gun, both standing on a black splatch of OIL.
