Idle No More is One Year Young on November 10, 2013

All Following Content is from Idle No More email news:

#INM1YR Nov10 Idle No More Revolution

Looking back, looking ahead

Idle No More is one of the largest Indigenous mass movements in recent history – sparking hundreds of teach-ins, rallies, and direct actions across the globe. What began as a series of teach-ins on November 10th, 2012 in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan to protest laws that would scale back on environmental protections and threaten Indigenous self-determination, has now changed the social and political landscape of Canada and beyond.

We know that many communities will be holding symbolic celebrations on Nov 10th to honour the birth of Idle No More. Idle No More organizers hope that all of us as individuals and as groups do take a moment on Nov 10th to look back and look ahead. And if you are planning a celebration or action on Nov 10th then please add it to the events listing on the website and if you are able to, please join the webinar below!

Winona Laduke Webinar Poster#INM1yr Winona LaDuke Webinar and Webinar Series

To mark the One Year anniversary of the Idle No More Movement, we will be launching a series of webinars, beginning with renowned Anishnaabe activist Winona LaDuke.  Please join us on the one year anniversary, November 10 at 10am CST for her talk “Restoring Stable Indigenous Economies”.www.idlenomore.ca/n10webinar  Other webinars will be announced soon.

Transforming ideas into action: Teach-ins, Direct Action, Round dances and Rallies. Sovereignty and Self-determination:

Indigenous peoples have been inspired to reclaim sacred sites, reinstitute traditional forms of leadership, and assert self-determination in the face of ongoing oppressive policies. Idle No More organizers and supporters are defending the land and water across the planet while also realizing the importance of educating the general public.

Building Alliances and Solidarity

Over the past year, the Idle No More movement has inspired thousands of people to action!  committing themselves to ongoing resistance against colonialism. Idle No More has become the center of media attention, connecting millions of people through our websites, twitter account and facebook pages every day. It has also brought together a number of Indigenous solidarity groups and allies looking to work against the current and pending governmental policy that impacts on collective rights, social safety nets, and environmental protections.Idle No More has provided hope and love at a time when global corporate profits rule.

Moccasins on the Ground via Peaceful Uprising

News from Peaceful Uprising:
Note: the following content is entirely from Peaceful Uprising’s newsletter and site. All written content ought to be in blocked quotes-but “add new post” is not co-operating and insists on doing its own thing. Well, we work with what we’ve got. Solidarity.

MOCCASINS on the GROUND:
What Solidarity Looks Like!

Peaceful Uprising, among dozens of other grassroots groups, has been invited to the first Moccasins on the Ground to be held in Butte, Montana: another frontline non-violent direct action training camp. From there, we will be travelling back to South Dakota, to support our allies from the Oglala Lakota Nation for a Women’s Day of Peace action in White KKKLay – a march to “save (their) nation from the mental diseases of Alcoholism.”

Do not confuse this with a plea for charity. Landless peasants from all over the world benefited from the genocide of indigenous people across these occupied territories called the United States and Canada. When American Indian tribes sometimes signed treaties with the US government which sometimes allowed new white settlers to stay on tribal lands-that was charitable. So working today to mend damage and stop the genocide of indigenous people is not charity; it’s justice and solidarity.

The displacement of 40,000 Indigenous people and the destruction of the ecosystem of the Xingu River seems to be of no concern to those demanding the construction of the Belo Monte Dam. What is real progress? Is changing the landscape and destroying the lives of people “progress” in our world of climate change? Or is “progress” learning how to reach sustainable life-ways in harmony and balance with our environment upon which we are all dependent for survival as a species? What world will your grandchildren know? Or will there be a life-sustaining habitat for humans in the future? Is energy at any cost really worth the price of extinction?

 Stop Belo Monte Dam!

Let the Xingu River Flow!

Let the people Live.

What’s coming to the West Coast? No, not Santa’s reindeer. Port Shutdown from Icey Anchorage to Lovely LA.

Yes, folks this is for real. Port Shutdown is coming all along the entire West Coast of the USA. The mainstream media may decline to cover it. The city mayors may try to prevent it.  No talking heads will announce it on your local news stations. But Occupy Oakland’s action in Solidarity with the Longshoremen  has been agreed upon from Anchorage  to LA and beyond. This major mic check direct action fully intends to  fly.

Check Occupy Oakland’s livestream for coverage on Dec. 12.    http://www.livestream.com/occupyoakland
