Bread and Puppet Theater + “crisis bread” & “crying cream dreams” = Nourishment

In part to prove I still have a sense of humor, such as it may be, I offer some theatre and refreshments for your enjoyment.  Perhaps some of you will find Amy Goodman’s interview with Peter Schumann, founder of the Bread and Puppet Theater, as delightful as I did. Or not.  Schumann’s references to his own bread baking reminded me of poems I wrote for brulionmann as a result of his complaints about the state of bread–and cream– so it seemed like a great combo read meal deal.

“crying cream dreams”

cream? get real, brulionman

  brulionman get a cow.

 tie it to your bicycle

  hand school teats

seriously, get some finger action going

community uprising cream dream

cow eats sun

din din until day done

treat those teats right

milk, cream, butter, cheese

comes one happy cow

squeeze, squirt, squish

 get a Guernsey with a babe

fill a bucket

set set set

cream rises, oh hell, yeah

no, no, no to piggy fat!

real cream needs none of that!

flour? does not compute

send that shit down the garbage chute

just the cream if you please

sweet talk some butter

tease the thick from the top

sip sip sip, can’t resist

drop it in a jar

get some bike dance mojo goin’

thirty tic tocs butter glowin’

pushing creamy envelopes

cheesecloth action play

guess what you got coming days

 cheese, glorious cheese

get a cow, brulionman, no bull

you want real cream

fingers gonna need some teat pull school

No, I don’t know how to get a cow to ride a bike!

You’re on your own with that, brulionman!

Hello folks. As far as I can presently determine, the ONLY movie theater in Kansas City, Missouri currently offering ‘Fruitvale Station’ is the independently owned Tivoli Cinemas. Hats off to Tivoli’s  Jerry Harrington for bringing the film to Kansas City, Missouri. There’s a reason why this non-chain theatre continues to exist amidst all the big box chains and this is one of them–it brings things to us that we’d never otherwise get to see until they’re in little red envelopes.

Without further ado by moi:

If anyone knows of another movie theater featuring ‘Fruitvale Station’ at this time in Kansas City, Missouri, please share where and leave a link in a comment.  There may be one because it is not designated as an “exclusive” on Tivoli Cinema’s website as is “A Highjacking”.  Thank you.

Let’s Play with Plays Now–Are You Game?

There is a genre that is faster to read than a novel and longer than a Shakespearian Sonnet–The Play Is the Thing.  Often overlooked and underappreciated as a reading text outside the theater, still, plays offer some of the most engaging dialouge and delightful language around. And if you’ve got a game companion, they’re ideal for sharing.

Not for the faint of heart:

John Webster’s The Duchess of Malfi–the duchess has a secret lover–or is it a secret hubby?

Ben Johnson’s Volpone or the Fox–con men, lust, and law and order!

Thomas Middleton’s The Roaring Girl—and A Chaste Maide in Cheapside is also delightful for the coffin scene especially. The Girl—quite the equal opportunity desirer. Chaste Maide—more FUN than Romeo and Juliet–the lovers die—or do they?

Shakespeare’s King Lear—ah, all the dysfunctional family values one could wish for..

Timberlake Wertenbaker’s Our Country’s Good—and lest I be remiss–For the Love of the Nightingale.  First, how Australia was populated by so called criminals. Second, what a man in lust will do…

Sam Sheppard’s True West—more family values–sort of–

Aristophane’s Lysistrata—Sex or War–chose your adventure.

Synge’s Playboy of the Western World–It’s a damn fine Irish play. What more need I say?

Bertolt Brecht’s Mother Courage and Her Children–More War, anyone?

Goethe’s Faust—selling souls—ooohh see Michael Clayton’s cohorts..

Christopher Marlowe’s Edward the Second—all for love–truly.

Aphra Behn’s The Rover–lady snares a true troller among men–

~~~and what plays do you enjoy playing???
“Marry”
The seed keeper of the fig trees and a fruit faery wish to marry
They’ll upset carts.
They’ll capture darts.
They’ll rankle hearts
Of any nay sayers.
“Let them play,
then them we’ll slay,”
says a dark eyed gnome eater.
“There’ll be no more romance theater.”
“Oh how could they?!
“Why should they?”
“For their dereliction we’ll all pay!”
Sceam the outraged  fay.
While the seed keeper and the fruit faery’s
madly romping love throes
fly in the faces of their foes.
With thumbs to the nose,
cutting runs in their hose,
disrupting everyone’s doze,
They defy all limits,
challanging all who wish their love diminished
