What’s June 23rd? Solidarity Day with Tim DeChristopher.

"tempting infinity" @ eva wojcik

Love our Earth? Enjoy the great outdoors? Want a sustainable future for everyone? Then join Peaceful Uprising, myself and others to share solidarity with Tim DeChrisptohper AKA Bidder 70, on June 23, 2011.  Peaceful Uprising currently has 39 events scheduled where folks are planning on going to their federal courthouse to display an orange solidarity banner and taking photos of it.  I realize not everyone has the opportunity to engage in this visual show of solidarity for DeChristopher who faces imprisonment for taking action to save public lands during an illegal land auction. What did he do? He bid on the lands and then made arrangements to purchase them to save them from illegal gas and oil development.  While Tim faces imprisonment for his actions the people who arranged the illegal land auction face NO accountability for the illegal auction.  DeChristpoher’s motive for his actions was not allowed to be part of his defence.  Now isn’t that odd—the legal system doesn’t care why Tim DeChristopher picked up an auction paddle and became Bidder 70.  But the system is apparently quite angry that he did anything to foil an illegal auction that oil and gas companies would have benefitted from.  Do we smell fracking here? Hmm? Surely not!  The legal system is so ticked off it has delayed sentencing DeChrisptopher yet again! Apparently it got wind of the planned solidarity rally in Utah and decided to keep things “quiet” in order to not attract media coverage. Well, I seriously doubt there will be much media coverage on June 23. Hey, the mainstream press IGNORED the protests in Wisconsin for as long as possible. It knew of and ignored the War Protests in front of the White House where 144 people were arrested.  Corporate media wants no part of people speaking truth to power as DeChristopher has done. So, it’s up to me–and you as the audience–you’re here reading, right?–to do the media’s job and spread the word about Tim DeChristopher as Bidder 70. Information is knowledge. Knowledge is power. Get informed. Get empowered. Empower others. Share solidarity on June 23 by spreading the news! Visit Peaceful Uprising  to learn about the actions, trial, sentencing and events. There’s even a rally location map online.  It’s just for the USA. Why don’t we make it GLOBAL?  Get informed then decide for yourself to tweet/blog/text/facebook –or not– in Solidarity with DeChristopher on June 23.  It’s about YOUR future too.

Peaceful Uprising, Defending a Livable Future through empowering NON-violent action.

Not so breaking news: Monet’s Water Lilies, Evolving Magazine, and I suspect the Sahara is invading North America.

It’s time to grab your favorite libation, wear as little clothing as is socially acceptable when meandering in public and lounge in some deep shade. Hola to everyone willing to leave their tracks via comments, silent lurker types and just plain quiet folks.  I wish I could say I’ve been vacationing on a pristine Pacific Island, but I haven’t been. But I can wish it, can’t I? We can all visualize oil free beaches with gorgeous blue-green water playing kiss tag with fine-grained sand. Engage in group collective day-dream NOW!

"coastlines" @ eva wojcik

Yep, it’s HOT here in the land of Missouri where the twisters twirl when hot air meets cold front and the two dance.  I beat the heat one day at the Nelson Atkins Museum of Art where three of Monet’s Water Lilies panels are keeping company, as they ought, for the first time in decades. While this exhibit tends to be a tad full of admirers, some of whom like to get really CLOSE to the canvas, it’s worth making the effort to either wait them out or make multiple visits on the day of your ticket for those moments when there is a fully open view. Without obstructions like huge strollers and worshipping groupies the luminous quality of the painted water is easy to soak up.  Monet’s panels are really lovely. If you’re in the KC Metro area via residence or vacation the Water Lilies are worth dipping into–especially if you grab a discount online coupon worth a fiver.  Then again, if you’ve got the funds to fuel your gas tank for a vacation then a fiver probably doesn’t concern your wallet much at all. While there’s a price for the Water Lilies exhibit everything else is free for viewing as there is no general admission price. There’s plenty to see: the new Native American Collection (about which I may rant in the future), the wonderful Oriental and Egyptian exhibits, the Cricket accessories–no, not the game, but those musical little insects which were once all the rage with feeding bowls, homes, and toys, and the impressive Photography collection portions of which are on display in regularly changing exhibits. Oh yeah, there’s also a few tons of Henry Moore sculptures among the beautifully shaded outdoor grounds.  Frisbee, tai chai and picnics are allowed on the lawn, under the trees and on the steps. It’s easy to make a  day of it at the nicely air-conditioned Nelson if you’re so inclined. Hmm, I didn’t start this out as a promo for the Nelson but rather as a getting back into the land of blogs “howdy” to all. Really, I didn’t.

So now onto personal art news. Monet I’m not. But my show at the Westport Coffeehouse in Kansas City’s Westport district is on through the end of June. Other work is on display at Frick Electronic’s Modern Art Gallery in the Englewood area of Independence. The little Englewood area is working hard to revive this shopping district with coffee shops, markets and businesses using their wall space for art gallery displays. There’s even the Vogue Salon and Spa with its walls covered in photography for view while they cut and style  your golden locks.  Every third Friday they host an Artwalk complete with music and munchies. All that’s missing is an evening Farmers’ Market. Links to Westport Coffeehouse and Frick’s are over at my energyscapes blogcasa  www.evaenergyscape.wordpress.com

To complete all my yapping about myself….blah, blah, blah…. Hey, how’s your cold drink holding up wherever you’re lounging?  Okay last horn blow:

I’m thrilled that “coming” is featured on the June cover of “Evolving, A Guide for Conscious Living.”  Much thanks to publisher Jill Dutton for the opportunity.  You can check out “Evolving” at www.evolvingmagazine.com  The current issue has an interesting piece on Women in Business.

Hope everyone is staying sane in these insane times.  Yes, insane–dams, pipelines and oil rigs running rampant. Yep, it’s tough to not rant about our environment–especially with all this HEAT.  Iced gunpowder green tea is doing all it can to cool me off–but there’s only so much it can do.  What’s chilling your heels lately?

Peace to all.

Reach out and “Touch” a blogcasa.

Peace all.

For no particular reason I have not “done” blog awards in a long time.  I know  they’re useful for connecting folks to new blogcasas that they might not otherwise discover. They can be an interesting form of networking in blogland.  I have appreciated each one that has come my way while blogging.  I just often get caught up in using my blog time tossing out posts about other things that have caught my attention. So this is an effort to not forget about two recent awards from Jingle and eva626.  Thanks to both of you for your kind  words and thoughtfulness.  In return I thought I’d create my own award visual using one of my energyscapes, “Touch,” for whomever decides to accept and post an award visual at their blogcasa.  Hey, an artist is always on the prowl for exposure! LOL. So, if you see “Touch” making its way around blogland beyond here to new blogcasas that would be a way of tracing how far our connections have traveled.  I hope others will reach out and touch others with “Touch.”

Wow, it’s been busy here–traffic in one door and out the other from the looks of the tracks left by visitors to blogcasa. Welcome folks, newcomers and regulars. Yes, Al, that includes you too,  river blog artist.  Quick by the way, yes, I do have the best of intentions to return the favors of visitors who have left tracks and to do something about a couple of networking blog awards–which always seem to present when moi is most distracted by things outside of blogland. No slights intended to Jingle or eva626.  Hopefully I do all things by rights and create some webby connections for you both.  Meanwhile, I hope you all enjoy “leaves and stones” from my falling in love with my Minolta x 700 collection.  If you’re stateside, all the best hoped for with all things taxed, taxing and taxable–unless you’re GE of course. Why should any corporation pay federal taxes, right? Oh I don’t know, maybe to contribute THEIR fair share to the collective potluck? Then again, corporate personhoods are more special than that rest of us persons. Afterall, they’re not really persons at all except in legalese.  Hey, maybe that’s the tax-free ticket for the rest of us–declare ourselves “corporate persons” so that we too will be tax-free. Wonder how long any government will continue functioning or even be-ing once that happens. Hmm?
Okay, well, must run off elsewhere besides aqui para uno tiempo. Everyone play nice. Oh and all the best to the ongoing recall efforts in Wisconsin. Four down and four to go.  Recalls to keep everyone busy and focused until they can beam Scotty up and out.  Ain’t he lucky those Wisconsinites aren’t inclined towards French historical activities?

Some uplifting bird color and high-flying energy seems to be in order. Can you imagine a world without birds? What would it be like without their varied songs and kaws? I suppose squirrels would be thrilled to be the feeder guests of choice if they did not have to compete with avians for seed meals.  While I’ve been seeing and hearing a number of my favorite sparrows and geese with tough attitudes–I have noticed a decline in variety and volume these recent mornings.  I attribute this to the loss of about half the nearby local trees.  Fewer places to nest and roost means fewer birds.  Hence there is consderably less joy in the dawn time.  What have you noticed about the resident  birds in your neck of the urban woods?

“mystery”

"mystery" @ eva wojcik 2011

Usually we feel more comfortable with all that we can see with our eyes in the daylight hours. But what of all we never see now just because it’s the dark of night or the deepening gloom of storm skylines? Joseph Conrad wrote of the darkness of the heart–but what of darkness of the mind and spirit? What of the darkness of the world at large that is often ignored or hidden?  Why hide what we’re proud to accomplish? There are “sunshine laws” regarding political work for reasons. One reason is that politicians do not always act in the best interests of anyone except themselves and the people who fund them. Yet many other nefarious and questionable actions are often played out during every day’s sunny times. Mysteries are not universally negative affairs. Much goes on during the nocturnal hours that is useful and positive for many animals and plants. Some of us are more creatively productive in the between times of twilight and dawn. What’s in motion during these transitional periods of light? It seems we are in a one such time of change and how we deal with the need to evolve to live in balance with other people and natural world of which humans are a part will decide how much longer our species gets to enjoy day and night.

Do you thrive in the in between light and dark times?

Spring chatter a la “squirrel talk”

"squirrel talk" @ eva wojcik 2011

Here’s a touch of whimsy  for all us squirrel lovers. Yes, indeed there are those of us who enjoy the antics of the furry tailed rodents that many others despise for chowing down on birdseed like greedy children devouring free samples in a candy store. Hey, are there still such things as “candy stores” as in shops devoted solely to offering candy in a multitude of flavors and varieties? Come to think of it, I have not been in such in a long time. Anyone out there in blogland know of a candy shop? If you’re a squirrel then black sunflower seeds may be candy along with peanuts in the shells.  My grandfather once “addicted” a squirrel to an oreo cookie a day.  Long ago I wrote “Mugged by a squirrel for plum”–a true adventure on the campus of U of Cal, Berkeley.  Yes, MUGGED was the correct word for that little gangster’s antics. Care to share your close encounters with some of our oh so adaptable high wire scramblers deluxe? Or are you just wondering what they’re plotting above?

Yes, folks, what’s thriving in your very own kitchen science projects residing in your refrigerator? Oh don’t deny that  interesting unknown entities are multiplying , dividing and reproducing profusely in some remote section of your fridge–or kitchen cabinets. Everyone  is farming some sort of biological life form somewhere in their personal environment–including the invisible to the human eye varieties.  If you don’t agree with my choice of title and word allusions for this watercolor, please do suggest whatever title seems most appropriate based on your engagement with the image and colors.  You are encouraged to “freely associate” at will.
