The Restorative Justice League of Le Grand High School jumps in to save the day

Schools and The Restorative Justice League–someone is doing something right for a change!

ACEs Too High

A teen starts a fistfight with a fellow student. Another brings alcohol to school. Another urinates on a fellow student’s locker, and a fight ensues.

Three years ago at Le Grand High School, in Le Grand, CA, these students would have been immediately expelled or suspended. This year, they weren’t. They didn’t miss any classes. They made amends. They learned from their mistakes.

In 2010-2011, Principal Javier Martinez suspended 49 students and expelled six. Last year, he suspended 15 and expelled only one.

This school year, with the help of the Restorative Justice League, he’s going for double zeros.

Restorative justice is an idea that needs to be pushed, promoted, shouted from the rooftops…without healing (restoration) it isn’t justice, it’s only revenge.

Yes, this makes so much sense it’s incredible. It made my day when I found this on ACEs Too High. Hello MisBehaved Woman. You’ve been really BUSY at your blogcasa. I’m going to have to catch up somehow! LOL.

Somewhere I have a young adult book called, “Touching Spirit Bear”, I think. The whole concept behind it is to promote Restorative Justice and to highlight the ways it benefits everyone concerned. For a book that isn’t meant for adults, I loved every page and every idea. There are a few advocates that are trying to blend more RJ into our system but wow, it’s a hard sell and no one wants to hear about whacky ideas like “forgiveness” or “healing”…so sad.
Busy…yep, yep…offending people left and right and getting my arse chewed out/losing readers on posts that were meant to be funny.
        Blog name: MISBEHAVED.
        Peoples’ expectations: I should behave.
Huh. Maybe time for another cyber-vacation! 😀
